LOOKING AHEAD: FALL TERM STUDENT LIFE EVENTS ON CAMPUS
Welcome back to school, Saints! Whether your summer was eventful and satisfied all your cravings for human interaction or it was lackluster and left you with a severe case of “FOMO,” fear not – there are plenty of Student Life events coming up this academic year, and I’ll lay them out in this article.
But, first I want to express my deep well of appreciation for the Student Life department as a whole. While there have been valid criticisms published in previous issues of The Advocate, I want to be an advocate for their tireless dedication to us, the students. I sat down with Doctor Abio Ayeliya, the director of Student Life, this morning before writing this article and though it was a short meeting it was wonderfully inspiring and heart-warming to hear his vision and plans for Student Life on campus.
Building a community where everyone feels safely welcomed and included, where students feel seen and heard, is an enormous job. There is a lot of thankless work that happens behind the scenes and “after hours.” The Student Life faculty and our fellow students who have embraced the challenge of being student leaders are doing this hard work to make the college experience better for all.
In the time I’ve been a student here, I’ve seen the work Student Life does from the inside out. While things may not always happen as planned, I can assure you that a lot of care, consideration, and genuine love for community building goes into every event that these people stage for us. Student Life’s goal continues to be an unwavering desire to create a safe, welcoming space for students and members of our community who need it.
All that said, let’s get into some of the events students can look forward to this term!
