Mt. Hood Student Body President and Vice President Announced
On May 8, Student Life leaders announced the winners of the student body election of president and vice president for the student government (Associated Students of Mt. Hood Community College) for the 2024-2025 school year.
The event was sparsely attended, and held little drama since Alessandra Dante Sciarratta was the lone candidate for president, and Ty Brintnall the lone contender for vice president.
In all, 306 total votes were counted in the elections, a turnout rate of about 8.5 percent of students enrolled in for-credit classes in Spring term.
Dante Sciarratta received 261 votes for president, while 45 votes were cast as write-in votes for other students. Brintnall received 275 votes for vice president, with an additional 31 write-in votes counted.
While the number of votes was low overall, the two victors said they were encouraged by the increased number of votes cast in comparison to the previous year. Brintnall said, “It was great seeing it increase from last year.”
On how representative the election was for students, Sciarratta said “a small sample of students is enough” to know that there is a need for a student government group to advocate on behalf of students at Mt. Hood.
