New Student Body President Ready To Lead
This November, the Mt. Hood students voted Peyton Hull in as our new student body president. I am very excited to have her serve our student community here at MHCC. She always strives to do her best. Last year at Mt. Hood she completed the two-year program for Integrated Media: Video, while at the same time being heavily involved with the theatre program here.
Hull is a standout student and very passionate. I am sure having here as a community leader here at MHCC will strengthen our student body.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Sandy and Boring, Oregon, and I attended Sam Barlow High School.
How has your experience at MHCC been so far?
I love it. The small, intimate setting with the classrooms allows me to have more time with my professors, allowing me to take away what I need from each lesson. As well (as) having my major-specific advisers help me get industry-specific answers.
What are some of your favorite things at MHCC?
I love the atmosphere of the Student Union. It feels as if there is no judgment, and you could be yourself. It is a place to hang out or do homework, get snacks, and meet new people. I have met some of the best people there.
What are some things you dislike here at MHCC?
I am not a fan of the early closure hours of the dining and café, as well as the expensive prices. I understand staffing and profit have roles to play within this department, but I wish there was an agreement we could come to. Especially for our night students.
What are some things you hope to change at this school during your presidency?
I hope to bring in online students’ voices and give them a platform to voice their concerns. I want to have more exposure for our arts programs and help their studies feel just as important. I also want to continue the advocacy for more bus stops at the campus, but this one proves to be more difficult due to the other forces at play.
What skills have you developed here?
I have developed a lot of project management skills here at MHCC. Being able to work in specific styles such as Scrum or Waterfall [Project Management Methodologies] has helped me approach each representative’s work styles and help them in a more efficient way.
What are your academic/career goals?
I am in school studying theatre to get a Bachelor of Fine Arts. I am hoping to continue my education and obtain a Master of Fine Arts and become a full-time theatre professor at a community college and to sit on a board of education at a local K-12 school (district).
How do you plan to be a positive role model to students?
I plan to always have a smile on my face and to assist students the best way I can. I never want to be perceived as too harsh or intimidating, and I want to be someone that people feel comfortable learning new skills from. I am always happy to help someone. I want to continue to work hard so no one doubts the things I have accomplished.
